Santana’s House | Brittana
Brittany’s eyes widened when Santana snapped, she hated making the girl angry and Santana was pretty intimidating whenever she got mad. Trying to keep her gaze away from Santana out of fear that the girl might snap at her again, but it didn’t work very well seeing as her friend moved her head to block her wandering eyes. When Santana said it was important, Brittany knew she should listen to her even if the girl might snap again, whatever she had to say, it was probably worth listening to. A shy smile crept up on her lips as she listened to her friend talk, she had a point, but she still wasn’t fully convinced “Yea..but colleges don’t look at that stuff. I don’t want to stay here for the rest of my life and turn into a Mr.Schue with boobs. You’re going to do so many super awesome things and I want to be there when you do them and it’s scary knowing that I might not. I don’t want to be like a hundred years old and still be stuck in high school, do you know how long it will take me to get to school with a walker?”
“I don’t want you to hurt them because I just pretend that they didn’t get enough hugs as a kid and that they’re sadder than I am and that’s why they say mean things to me, so it would be kind of mean to hurt them and stuff.” Brittany remembered hearing somewhere that people bully each other because their insecure themselves, now Brittany wasn’t too sure what that meant or how it made sense, but she went with it anyways. She also just didn’t want Santana getting sent to the principal’s office for breaking someone’s face, she really didn’t want the girl to get suspended because marks like that went on people’s permanent records and Brittany didn’t want to taint the girl’s record because of a few mean kids. Brittany grinned, cuddling into Santana when she felt her friend tug her closer “I think we need to come up with a new word for how smart you are then.” She nodded agreeing with her new statement of whatever she said went, Brittany was completely okay with that. After catching onto the girl’s hints, she flipped over onto her back, shrugging slightly “It doesn’t really matter, can we just forget about it and talk about something else? My parents are just being my parents, it’s pretty boring. I like talking about you instead..well not talking about you, I like talking to you and I also like it when you tell me about your day and stuff because that’s never boring.”
As Santana kissed her jaw, all seriousness flew right out the window for her and she was easing back into her bubbly mood again which was good, she hated being in that dark, cloudy, spacey mood. “Mm, if your awards system has anything to do with sweet lady kisses then I’ll definitely play along with it.”
She regretted snapping at Brittany almost at once. Most days Santana was your clichéd time bomb, ready to go off on the unsuspecting bystander without a moment’s, but she prided herself on keeping her cool when it came to Brittany. Brittany was a cut above the rest of Lima’s miserable population, she didn’t deserve to be treated like any of the rest of them. She didn’t communicate the apology that had begun to bubble up inside her, but she gave Brittany a sheepish smile, hoping that her eyes would do the talking for her. “Britt, you dance better than anyone with twice your experience.” She began evenly, struggling desperately to keep her tone under control. If there was anyone who was going to get out of Lima and do great things, it was Brittany S. Pierce and Santana knew that better than anyone. “You’re more talented than the entire glee club put together. Let me help you with your applications, I guarantee that if you go to a dance school they aren’t even going to look at your grades once they see you dance. “ Santana shifted on the bed resting the top half of her body against Brittany’s. “We’re going to go to New York together. You’re going to dance at Julliard or something and I’m going to study at NYU and we’re going to get an apartment, live off of ramen noodles and buy a duck that drives me nuts.” Friends did that sort of stuff right? It was normal. “I’m not going without you so don’t worry so much about it okay?”
She sighed, the ghost of a smile taking over her face, “Only you could see things like that. I don’t like it Britt…But fine, I won’t hurt anyone. They don’t deserve for you their sorry asses.” Santana’s second sigh was deeper, angrier than before. Of course it circled back to her parents. How the Pierce’s didn’t see their own daughter’s brilliance absolutely boggled Santana’s mind. “It matters to me.”She grumbled when Brittany dodged her question, “It always matters to me. But fine, we’ll talk about me.” Santana fixed Brittany with one of those stares, letting her know that this conversation was far from over and that she was only humoring Brittany right now. “Class is boring. I hate that you took Home Ec last year because my partner’s a tool bag and I thought about stuffing him in the oven while we were making cupcakes today. Came home, did some homework, and I was thinking about breaking out that glass of wine we stole from my dad last week. Could be fun, we haven’t drank on a school night in a long time?”
“Sweet lady kisses and a whole lot more if you’re up for it.” She smiled against Brittany’s skin, sucking idly on her pulse point before pulling away completely, “Only if you’re up for it, looks like you’ve had a rough day Britt Britt.”
Brittany’s eyes instantly softened when she saw her friend’s smile, she knew Santana never meant to snap at her and it was only on rare occasions that she did and Brittany could never recall a time where Santana didn’t at least look guilty about snapping. Brittany knew Santana well enough to know that the girl wasn’t the best at apologies but words weren’t necessary, she could read her friend’s facial expressions clearly and knew exactly what she meant by them. “You mean I dance even better than Mike Chang?” She knew the answer to that question without even having to ask it, but Mike was an amazing dancer, he was probably one of the best in Lima that she knew of. When Santana told her that a dance school wouldn’t even look at her grades, that was like a huge weight lifted off her chest. If there was one thing Brittany feared most, it was being apart from Santana. She didn’t even want to think about what it would be like if they were hours away from each other. “I like that plan, especially the living with you and the duck part.” She grinned, nodding when Santana told her not to worry, Brittany trusted her so if she said she wasn’t going with her then Brittany knew she was telling the truth.
“Good. Plus Mr.Schue might get mad at you if he finds out you were beating kids up and he’s kinda creepy when he gets mad and I don’t want him to yell at you, I’m always afraid that he might get too angry one day and his hair might actually burst into flames,” she frowned at the thought. Mr.Schue was a good teacher most of the time, but that didn’t stop Brittany from assuming his hair would burst into flames if he got too angry, it seemed logical to her therefore it had to be true. Brittany’s frowned turned from one of disgust into one of guilt, she knew Santana cared about her and she knew her problems mattered to her and no matter how many times Brittany would try and get out of talking about things, Santana wouldn’t let it go that easily. “I remember making cupcakes in Home Ec, well I never got around to making them because the eggs confused me..anyways, yea I wish I was in your class because I don’t like people being tool bags to you, although I’m not too sure what that means, I’m guessing it’s not a nice thing. Drinking on a school night? That does sound fun, I’m up for it if you are.”
Brittany grinned broadly at the idea of more than just sweet lady kisses but almost instantly, her wide smile faltered into a pout when the girl pulled away “No, no, I’m up for it, I promise. Sweet lady kisses always help make things better, trust me.”
Santana’s House | Brittana
“Well you’re super hot so maybe seeing us both naked might turn him on a bit so he won’t get so mad. I don’t get mad when I’m turned on..” She trailed off, losing herself in her thoughts as she tried to concentrate on what she was thinking about, but different things kept popping into her mind and she always lost herself which is why she was glad the subject drifted away from Santana’s Dad and how he would react if he caught them doing the dirty in his car. She frowned guiltily when she heard how harsh the girl’s tone was. “If I’m not broken then what am I? Am I that r word kids call me? That would explain a lot. I just want to know what’s wrong with me so that I can fix it so I don’t have to hurt anymore.” Her gaze traveled from Santana back up to her friend’s ceiling. It was easier to talk while looking at something so blank, she couldn’t get lost in the ceiling but she could get lost in Santana’s eyes, her eyes were so pretty even if they were brown, they were the prettiest shade of brown Brittany had ever seen. Just thinking about how pretty they were made Brittany smile which might seem odd seeing as they were talking about something serious.
She allowed Santana to tilt her head, now her eyes were back on Santana’s. “But you get me. Your Abuela is smart since people throw things at Rachel all the time.” She couldn’t help but frown at the thought of people throwing things at Rachel, sure the girl was a bit obnoxious sometimes..well all the time, but Brittany couldn’t help but wonder if the harassing Rachel got made her feel the same way Brittany did. “But it’s so hard not to believe them. When you have like a million people shouting at you telling you you’re stupid, it’s hard to listen to that one voice in your head telling you you’re not and sometimes that little voice is shouting it along with them.” A soft smile curled at her lips when Santana kissed her nose and said she was the smartest person she knew, the voice in Brittany’s head might have started agreeing with the mean kids at school, but that didn’t matter sometimes because Santana’s voice was louder than everyone elses, even her own and Santana was always right. “Does that mean that you’re a genius since you’re the only person who can see that?”
Brittany giggled at Santana’s insults towards both Puck and Rebecca Black before scrunching her nose up in disgust “I don’t know why Puck gets laid all the time, it’s not like his dick is made of chocolate or something. Her song helps me sometimes, but I think I really should start to learn how to read a calendar without having to recite the whole song.”
Santana’s grimaced deepened, the last thing she wanted to hear about was her father getting turned on by her and Brittany. She floundered helplessly thinking about the correct thing to say in such an awkward situation, but soon it was a moot point and there were more pressing things to discuss. Things that had Santana’s blood boiling in anger. “You are not retarded Brittany.” She snapped angrily, unoccupied hand fisting in the sheets as she fought the urge to yell. “There is absolutely nothing wrong with you. Hey, hey, look at me Britt, this is important.” She moved her head around attempting to block Brittany’s wandering gaze, “Not everyone is smart in the same way. Wheels the clown can do math equations in his sleep, but do you think he knows the first thing about being popular or climbing a social ladder? And Puck can barely scrape through History but if I ever needed cash, he’d be the first person I asked for advice.” Or for another bottle of whiskey, but that was hardly the point. “So what if math is confusing for you Britt or if it takes you a little longer to get through your homework. No one, and I mean no one, can read people like you do. I swear to god you’re like some sort of freaking empathy or something. You know more about people and the way that they work than anyone I know, and I think that’s a helluva lot more valuable than figuring out the square root of whatever.”
“I know it’s hard not to listen to ‘em. People never know when to shut their fucking mouths. Who’s giving you shit now Britt? Just tell me who it is and Lima Heights won’t even cover the world of pain they’re in for.” Santana knew that Brittany could fight her own battles, but there was nothing that got her blood boiling more than when people put her best friend down. It both baffled and disgusted her how no one could ever see just how brilliant Brittany Pierce was. A few more shots and hell, she’d march over to whomevers house it was by the end of the night and really cause a commotion. She shook her head exasperatedly, arm worming it’s way across Britt’s body pulling her tighter to Santana. “Let’s be honest, genius doesn’t even cut how smart I am. Besides I’m Head Cheerlead so what I say goes. And what I says is that you,” She tapped Brittany’s shoulder affectionately, “Are the smartest girl at McKinley High and there is nothing anyone could say or do that would make me feel any differently. Therefore,” Another tap, this one accompanied by a quick peck on the cheek, “I’m right and all those haters are wrong. End of discussion.” Carefully Santana tugged at Brittany’s body, urging her to flip over onto her back. “Seriously though Brittany, what happened, did your parents say something to upset you? ‘Cause we gotta call them and let them know you’re staying the night, and I will totally say something to them if I need to.”
Santana peppered gentle kisses across Brittany’s jaw, grinning despite the seriousness of the situation, “If you want to learn the calendar B, I’d be more than happy to teach you. You play along with my awards system and you’ll totally have it down by the end of the night.”
Santana’s House | Brittana
It took a moment for Brittany to register that Santana had slid next to her on the bed and she glanced over at her just to be sure that she really was there and she wasn’t day dreaming. Nodding when the girl tapped her forehead in response to her silent question. Brittany didn’t think her pills were bad, sure she didn’t like taking them half the time because she was never quite there when she took them, but they didn’t hurt her, in fact they actually numbed her. The world was a scary place, too many people get hurt for no reason at all and that scared her and at least while she was on medication she didn’t have to worry about getting hurt. She loved how Santana just corrected her without making any comments about it or without laughing, it just made things easier with her “Totally and if he walks in on us doing it, we can just say we’re reenacting scenes from the Titanic, then he can’t get mad at us because it’s like educational or something.”
Brittany couldn’t help but smile when she noticed Santana referring to it as ‘we’ instead of just ‘me’, it made Brittany feel like they were in this together, like they were in everything together. She shook her head at Santana question, as hot as it was when Santana got angry at people, Brittany didn’t think that the girl’s insults would be helpful this time around “I think I’m broken. People don’t laugh at you or Quinn, but whenever I answer something in class or I say something wrong, they laugh at me. I don’t get it. Whenever Puck says something in class they laugh, but it’s like not mean laughing, it’s like they’re laughing with him not at him. My parents always make jokes about me being in the special classes and then they start laughing, but it’s the mean laughing again. It’s confusing, I feel like Rebecca Black but at least she knows how to read a calendar,” she explained letting out a frustrated sigh.
Laughing Santana rolled her eyes, Brittany’s logic was entirely flawed, but completely creative. “Oh he’d totally go for that after he got over the shock of seeing us both ass naked.” In all honesty, Dr. Lopez probably expected to catch Santana in the back of his car at some point, but she doubted he’d ever think to find his precious mija getting wanky with her female best friend. Grimacing at the thought she shook her head to rid herself of the image that had lodged itself behind her eyes. It wasn’t a difficult task to do when Brittany finally started speaking again. A dark frown slid into place and Santana draped her arm across Brittany’s back, tugging her closer to her body. “Brittany Pierce, you are not broken.” Her voice came out a lot harsher than she had meant to sound, but she fucking hated it when Brittany put herself down.
A hand shot out, finger curling around Brittany’s chin, gently tilting her head so that she could get a good look at her face. For some reason she felt a hell of a lot more sober than she had only minutes ago. “People don’t get you Britt. Abuela used to tell me that people throw rocks at things that shine.” Or slushies in their world, “But just because they’re not smart enough to understand how your brain works doesn’t mean that you should believe the things that they say or do.” She leaned forward and pecked her nose affectionately, before resting their foreheads together, “You are the smartest person I know Britt Britt, you always have been.” Santana attempted to hold her gaze, hoping to communicate all of the reassurance that she was having trouble vocalizing.
“And okay, one, the only thing they’re laughing at is the size of Puck’s dick. And two, Rebecca Black can’t read a calendar, that’s why she needed to make a song about it. It helps her remember.”
Santana’s House | Brittana
“A search party? That sounds like one weird party, but I like parties!” she replied with a smile, not fully understanding if what Santana meant by a search party was a good thing or a bad thing. Sliding her arms around her friend’s waist, she held her close for a moment before pulling back when she felt that she might be making Santana feel awkward. Whenever Brittany took her medicine, she always felt unbalanced, not physically but mentally. It was like she was floating away from herself and the world and Santana was her anchor so whenever she got the chance, she clung onto her. “Wait..if it’s a search party does that mean you were happy I wasn’t here and that’s why you were throwing a party or is it because you were mad I wasn’t here and wanted to throw a party to make people find me?” she asked slightly confused.
Before Santana could even answer, Brittany was walking over to the girl’s bed, flopping herself down as she let out a content sigh. “You know that Forest Grump guy? The one who said life is like a box of chocolates or whatever? He was so wrong. Life is like the Titanic, it’s nice and happy and then you hit something and then things start falling apart too fast that you can’t fix them, then you have to make hard decisions, and then it’s really up to you if you get your happy ending or not,” she rambled on mindlessly, cracking open her eyes that she didn’t even realize she had closed “And I would totally be your Jack.”
Santana was still deciding how best to respond, unsure that any response would garner her favors at the moment. But luckily, and before Santana’s slightly sluggish brain could wrap itself completely around the question, Brittany extracted herself from Santana’s embrace and flopped down onto the bed. The sudden change of topic was not an unusual thing for Brittany. Santana was convinced that her friend was a bit flighty to begin with, but totally not in a bad way or anything, and then when you added in that damn medication she was always taking…Well, it always equated into interesting conversations. Santana always preferred a more lucid Brittany, catching her when she was just coming down off of her medication was Santana’s favorite, but she couldn’t deny (and Santana hated herself for it) that there was something beyond endearing about a medically induced loopy Britt.
Usually Brittany’s shifts were like second nature to Santana, they slid so easily in and out of conversations anyway that she just sort of went with the flow, but the alcohol had dulled her senses. She was forced to wade through the wine induced fuzziness in order to grasp that Britt had gone from search parties to the Titanic. Though the name Jack did pique her interest even if it wasn’t because of Brittany’s oddly romantic declaration. Forcing herself to focus, Santana poured herself into bed next to her best friend and nudged her with her shoulder. “Forest Gump.” Automatically Santana’s pointer finger reached out for Brittany tapping her forehead, wordlessly questioning whether or not Britt had just taken her medication. “Does that mean we can have sex in the back of my dad’s car sometime?” She rolled her eyes with a large grin, “Cause if so I’m totally okay with you being my Jack. Don’t you think about drowning for me though, gots it? Now what’s on your mind Britt Britt? What’s falling apart that we can’t fix?” Never ‘you’ always ‘we’.
“Do I need to go all Adjacent on someone’s ass?”
